May 2021. The Belgian government lifted the ban on leisure travel in April, but strict travel rules limited options. As the Balearic Islands – lles Balears or Islas Baleares – were a yellow zone, we booked flights to and a hotel in Palma de Mallorca.
After being dropped off at the airport by a taxi from our hotel we had to navigate the huge departure hall to find the Iberia Express counters to check-in for our flight. Tucked away in a corner was a dedicated business class counter. Both agents seamed to suffer a bit from a morning mood, but the business class agent nonetheless smoothly checked us in. There was a bit of confusion about out lack of a PCR-test, but as we were Belgians returning home we did not need one. After looking into her computer this was cleared up and we were checked-in. this time our bags received a priority tag.
We were allowed to use the fast-track security line, but it seemed to take more time than other lines as there were a few people in front of us that acted like they never saw an airport security before and held up the entire line.
After clearing security we spent some time waiting in the AENA Valldemossa VIP Lounge. Our flight boarded from the new section of the C-gates, offering a big panoramic view over the parked planes. Here boarding was also performed back to front and the Mallorca ground staff actually succeeded in mostly letting it happen that way too.

Airbus A321-200 EC-JDR
Delivered to Iberia in June 2005, Flying for Iberia Express since June 2018
This time the flight was operated by a bigger Airbus A321 plane. The cabin once again offered different seats. AS this was an ex-Iberia mainline aircraft this was presumably the old Iberia cabin. Seats where in a 3-3 configuration with the middle seat left open in business class. The seats where a bit more padded and not as thin on the Iberia Express A320, yet not as well thought out and designed as the newer Iberia A320 Neo. They also lacked power plugs, which could become on a longer flight if you are streaming the entertainment on your portable device.
After take-off the in-flight service started with a glass of orange juice. We were asked if we wanted to eat something and where offered a tray with a croissant, some freshly cut fruits and a yoghurt. A nice light and basic breakfast. The crew did not proactively offer any more drinks, but on a short flight like this it was not a big deal, just a contrast to our inbound flight.
The flight was mostly uneventful, the sparse clouds offered us with some nice view over Spain like the landfall at Valencia.
Once again we were satisfied by the service Iberia Express offered, especially considering the short flight length.
