REVIEW | Hotel Belmont M Gallery Vancouver

In May and June 2023, we travelled from east to west across Canada. From Halifax in Nova Scotia to Montreal in Quebec, to Toronto in Ontario, to Vancouver and Whistler in British Columbia. Along the way some night trains and commuter trains, the Niagara Falls and – imagine this – a bus journey. A true Trans-Canada Train Trek.

The final night of our trip we would sleep in the Hotel Belmont. It has been recently renovated and is now part of the M Gallery brand of Accor. It has a bit of a quirky and fashy design and stands out from the rest of its environment.  Upon arrival the bellboy immediately helped us haul the bags up the short flight of stairs into the reception area. When we arrived only two out of the three rooms where ready but the hotel sent us a text when the third room was ready, which was very welcome.

While we booked three exactly the same rooms, they did differ in size due to the age of the building. Sam and I had a very cramped room which barely fit the bed, with the coffee and tea facilities on the nightstand next to the bed and a small bathroom.

Timothy and my parents on the other had each had more spacious rooms, which included more storage and even a small desk to work on.

So keep in mind if you book in this hotel that not all rooms are equal and should you need a desk that you might best contact the hotel in advance so they can assign you such a room. The rooms are all decorated in the same modern funky style and look quite smart. The bathrooms use multi-use dispensers for the products, the product used however was very minty-fresh and maybe not to everyone’s taste.

The hotel didn’t offer a lot of amenities due to it’s small scale and central location. We did each get a drinks voucher to have a happy hour drink in the hotel bar, which was a nice touch.

In the morning we had breakfast in the hotel, while they marketed it as a fantastic experience it did not quite live up to the expectations they set. While it was an okay basic breakfast it was one of the least impressive spreads we have seen, if you really like breakfast you might be better off to go eat out in a proper breakfast restaurant in Vancouver.

The last hotel of our stay did provide us with a nice last place to rest our heads. The styling of the hotel and friendliness of the staff made for a nice experience. A good place to stay the night if the price is right.
