The new tram line 2 in Florence

In July 2019, Steve and I embarked on an East Mediterranean cruise on board MSC Sinfonia. We would visit Venice, Split, Santorini, Mykonos, Dubrovnik and Ancona. But our first stop was Florence.

In February 2019, Line 2 of the Florence tramway opened, connecting Aeroporto di Firenze-Peretola (FLR) to Unità, near Firenze Santa Maria Novella railway station.

For Steve and I it was a practical mode of transport to get to the city center. The ticket vending machine at the airport is straightforward enough, unlike at Stockholm Bromma Airport in Sweden.

Do buy your ticket because you will be checked.

The rolling stock are Sirio EMUs by AnsaldoBreda, nowadays Hitachi Rail Italy. AnsaldoBreda has a very bad reputation in Belgium and The Netherlands, as they poorly built the V250 ‘Fyra’.

But no complaints with the tram.
