City of Antwerp annexes Borsbeek, which becomes the tenth district on 1 January 2025
On Monday 18 December 2023, the municipal councils of both the City of Antwerp and the Town of Borsbeek approved the merge. Borsbeek will become the tenth district of Antwerp. Antwerp is unique in Flanders in that it has a two-tier system of municipal government with a city council and district councils.
