October 2024. During a week-long whistle-stop tour of Germany, we visit Dessau-Roßlau in Saxony-Anhalt, Weimar in Thuringia, Coburg in Upper Franconia (Bavaria) and Kassel in Hesse. Smaller cities, yes. But each with their own significance. Untouched by overtourism. We’re avoiding using the white trains of DB Fernverkehr, Deutsche Bahn‘s long-distance section and opt to use the red trains of DB Regio and other regional operators.
In Coburg we stayed at the Ibis Styles, Accor’s budget design hotel brand. Located close to the station and just a short walk from the town centre.

As it is an Ibis Styles it is a basic hotel but it does offer complimentary water, tea and coffee on the ground level.
The room itself was small but well appointed and what yoh would expect at an Ibis property. There where two single beds with light switches, a european power plug and USB-A plug next to the bed. Opposite the bed was a ledge and tv mounted against the wall. In the entrance hall you have some hangers to hang your clothes.

The bathroom has a toilet on one side of the washbasin and a walk-in shower on the other side. The shower only has a simple shower head which can either be hung against the wall or held in your hand, but no rain shower head. The products on offer where also the all-in-one kind you would expect at Ibis.

The hotel had a nice and cosy bar located in the old part of the building, while the rooms are located in the modern annex. We had a drink in the bar, courtesy of my ALL Gold status.

They also had a mini gym, curiously located in between rooms on the third floor. but once again due to its small size Timothy opted out on working out here.

The breakfast buffet was rather elaborate for an Ibis with a nice offering of cold and hot items. The tea, coffee and water machines stayed on all day, enabling guests to have a complimentary cup all day long which was a nice gesture.

Looking at the three other hotels in Coburg, the Ibis Styles is probably the top address to stay in. Close to the station, close to the city centre and ample place to park.
The kindness of the staff and quality of the hotel is also excellent.
