Antwerp-Linkeroever Railway Station to be renovated during the 2026 spring half-term and to open in May
In the spring half-term (Krokusvakantie) of 2026, Belgian railway infrastructure manager Infrabel will refurbish the derelict Antwerp-Linkeroever (Left Bank) railway station. The station must be ready to receive passengers when Flemish tram and bus company De Lijn closes the tram tunnel beneath the Scheldt in May.

Belgium‘s train operator NMBS / SNCB and and rail infrastructure manager Infrabel are examining the feasibility of reopening a train station on Linkeroever (Left Bank) in Antwerp. Koen Kennis (N-VA), alderman for Mobility, expressed cautious optimism about the idea during a recent city council meeting.

NMBS / SNCB to apologize for involvement in WWII deportation transports
During World War II, Belgian railway company NMBS / SNCB collaborated closely with the German occupiers. This included the deportation of 230,000 people to concentration and extermination camps using Belgian railway trains. The company is now preparing to issue a formal apology, amongst other initiatives.
Antwerp-Berchem Railway Station up for major revamp
Antwerp-Berchem Railway Station and its surroundings are set for a major renovation, beginning with the refurbishment of the railway bridge over the Ring in August 2028 and 2029, Het Nieuwsblad reports. The City of Antwerp is participating in a study on a new station building and the redevelopment of the surrounding area.
