After an extensive seven-year restoration, the monumental St James’ Church (Sint-Jacobskerk) in Antwerp will fully reopen its doors to the public. From Friday 15 May, visitors will once again be able to explore the church and its rich heritage in all its glory.

Open Monuments Day, 14 September 2025, in Antwerp: Discover the city’s sacred sites
On Sunday 14 September 2025, the 37th edition of Open Monuments Day will take place. With the theme ‘In Style!‘ this year’s programme highlights remarkable buildings in a wide range of architectural styles.
AREAS OF ANTWERP | St. James’ Church (Sint-Jacobskerk)
In November 2022, renovation works started on the east side of St. James’ Church or Sint-Jacobskerk in Antwerp. So when that was announced and before that area was closed off from the public, I went to visit the church.
ANTWERP | Start of the second phase of the restoration of the Sint-Jacobskerk
Now that the west side is ready, work will also start on the east side of the Sint-Jacobskerk or St. James’ Church in Antwerp on 7 November. The roofs and facades, stained glass windows, interior walls and vaults will be thoroughly overhauled. The complete restoration is foreseen in the course of 2027.
