On Sunday 25 May 2025, everyone is welcome to visit eleven inspiring gardens in Antwerp. Various residents and organisations are happy to open their gardens and provide tips on how to create a climate-friendly garden yourself. The EcoHuis also offers a lot of information about this that day.
The Open Gardens are an initiative of the Landelijke Gilden, with which they further emphasise the importance of gardens and their role in a climate-resilient landscape.
EcoHuis
Residents can visit the Antwerp EcoHuis on 25 May from 2 to 6 PM with all their green questions, for interesting lectures about gardens and trees, and for free tailor-made tree advice.
The first 150 visitors will receive a free plant, and children can have fun during a creative workshop by the Tuinfluiter or Garden whistler. Residents must register in advance for the lectures, workshops and the creative workshop.

Gardens
Antwerp residents who want to redesign their garden, but don’t know where to start, can find a lot of inspiration during a garden visit.
Most private gardens are open on Sunday 25 May between 2 and 6 pm. All information can be found at https://www.antwerpenvoorklimaat.be/opentuinendag-2025-particulier.
The historical gardens (Rubenshuis, De Hofkamer, the garden of the Institute for Tropical Medicine, the monastery garden of Campus Rochus) open their doors at 10 am, ideal for a green bike ride through the city that day. All information can be found at https://www.antwerpenvoorklimaat.be/opentuinendag-2025-historisch.
Alderman for the Environment Karim Bachar (Vooruit): “This year, the city is once again handing out 2,000 free trees to green gardens. After planting, the trees will contribute to the objectives of the 3-30-300 rule that Antwerp included in the administrative agreement. This rule states that every home, and therefore also Antwerp resident, needs 3 visible trees, 30% ‘climate green’ in the immediate vicinity and accessible greenery at a maximum of 300 meters.”
Do it yourself
Anyone who still needs to break out stones to green the garden can also use the tile service this year for free collection of stone rubble, more information at https://www.antwerpenvoorklimaat.be/tegelservice.
