Crossing the Alps via the Albula, Furka and Loetschberg passes

Up to now I always crossed the Alps in a north-south direction however on this trip I decided to travel along the alps from east to west. I started off in the morning in Sankt Moritz and finished my day at Kandersteg, continuing the next day towards Montreux at the border of the Lake Geneva.

Hotel Soldanella Sankt Moritz

After the following the Scenic Bernina route from Milano via Tirano to Sankt Moritz I was happy to be walking to my hotel, the Hotel Soldanella. After walking the steep uphill climb from the station to towards Sankt Moritz Dorf and discovering I could have just used the escalators from the station up to the…

From Milan to Sankt Moritz on the iconic Bernina Express line

After my adventures in France and Italy it was time to move on to the last country of this trip, Switzerland. We elected to travel on the famous Bernina route from Tirano to Sankt Moritz, one of the few railway lines in the world to be recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site. As the…

Roadtrip to Como

As I visited the highlights of Milan in 4 hours the previous day and as my friend Michel that joined me in Milan for the weekend had a rental car we decided to make a road trip to the Como Lake to spend our Saturday.

Holiday Inn Milan Garibaldi station

After getting lost in the Milano Garibaldi station upon exiting the metro from Milano Centrale where I arrived by Frecciarossa from Turin, I finally managed to escape the station and arrive at my hotel for the night, the Holiday Inn Milan Garibaldi station. It is located at the rear end of the Garibaldi station and tramline…

By Red Arrow to Milan

After my surprisingly pleasant visit of Turin, I travelled onwards to my next stop on the trip: Milan. To get there I used the Italian high-speed train, The Frecciarossa (Or Red Arrow).

Touring Turin

I was surprised by Turin, the city was much nicer and welcoming than I anticipated.  For Italian standards it’s a clean and well-structured city, with a very nice central pedestrianised main street with arcades along both sides. As a city with a rich history and a former Italian capital there are plenty of historic sights,…

Holiday Inn Turin City Centre

After our scenic rail trip from the coast winding up through the mountains we arrived at the Torino Porta Nuova railway station, where our hotel the Holiday Inn Turin City Centre was located right next to. After exiting the side exit we only had to cross the street before we reached the entrance of our…

From Cannes to Turin via the scenic Tende line

The next part of our trip would be in northern Italy, but of course we first had to get there. As our first planned stop was Turin we had two options to travel there, either we used the mainline routes via Genoa (but train traffic might still have been disturbed by the collapse of the…

A day in Monaco

As we were staying in Cannes, located at the Côte d’Azur, it was a no-brainer that we had to visit Monaco. It has always been a place I wished to visit, the playground of the rich. We took a train from the small station of Cannes La Bocca, located close to our hotel, which surprisingly…
