From Thursday 27 October to Sunday 20 November, the Rivierenhof in the Antwerp district of Deurne hosts ‘De Grote Schijn‘, a light show. It’s a play on words as ‘schijn‘ can mean ‘shine’ but Schijn is also the name of the small river.
The City of Antwerp has added the Wolvenberg-Brilschans nature reserve in the district of Berchem to the list of urban nature reserves. That list now includes six nature reserves, together accounting for more than 360 hectares of protected nature on urban territory.
Car-Free Sunday in Antwerp is now Antwerpen Shift. On Sunday 18 September, the historic city centre of the metropolis will be car-free. It follows Antwerp Culture Weekend of 27-28 August and Open Monuments Day of 11 September.
Two weeks after the Antwerp Culture Weekend, on Sunday 11 September, Open Monuments Day will take place with the theme ‘sustainability’. More than 35 buildings in Antwerp open their doors, and there are also four themed city walks and a bike ride in the city. All locations are free to visit.
On Saturday 27 and on Sunday 28 of August, Antwerp starts the cultural year with the Cultuurweekend or Culture Weekend. Performances, talks, stories, workshops, exhibitions and more are organised to open your appetite for the coming cultural season, which in Belgium runs parallel with the school year.

Looking for a nice place for a short hike, Oriol suggested back in August 2021 the Trollenbos or Troll Forest at De Schorre in Boom in the Province of Antwerp. De Schorre is the location for Tomorrowland.
April 2021. As COVID-19 still rages and we still live under coronavirus countermeasures, Oriol and I were looking fore hiking trails. As a long-time follower of Denzil‘s Discovering Belgium, I looked for inspiration on his hiking and nature blog and settled for ‘A 23 km hike around Viroinval‘.
