Another weekend, another pride in Belgium. After Brussels on Saturday 17 May, Namur (Namen) on Saturday 24 May, it’s now the turn of Mons (Bergen) in the province of Hainaut (Hainault with L if you want to honour Philippa of Hainault, Queen of England).

You may remember reports in 2023 on how Deutsche Bahn is interested in running trains from the Netherlands, via Belgium, to France. And DB would use its Arriva brand, already a household name in the Netherlands. Arriva is since 2024 also present in Belgium with the Tri-Country Train.

EuroCity Brussels – Paris to run from 19 December 2024
The EuroCity from Brussels-Midi/Zuid in Belgium to Paris-North in France will start running regularly on Thursday 19 December 2024. From French perspective, the service will run under the OUIGO brand. This train service already ran in the summer for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Benelux trains to be rebranded EuroCity Direct and EuroCity, allowing new market position
The train service between Brussels and Amsterdam which is nowadays known as ‘the Benelux‘ in Belgium, will be (re)named EuroCity Direct and EuroCity, the Dutch train enthusiasts website Treinreiziger.nl reports.

Today, tomorrow and Saturday Charleroi in the province of Hainaut hosts the Fête de l’Amour, the Festival of Love, aka Charleroi Pride or Pride Carolo. It’s the fifth edition of the Festival of Love and the third edition with a pride parade on Saturday.
Liège Pride 2024 programme and introduction
The city of Liège in the province of Liège will host its first fully-fledged pride weekend on 23, 24 and 25 August 2024. The Liège Pride website has now been launched, with more information and a programme. The organisers expect 5,000 participants.
MONS | Auguste Rodin exhibition at Beaux-Arts Mons / CAP museum
Until 18 August 2024, the Beaux-Arts Mons museum or Museum of Fine Arts of Mons is hosting an exhibition on French sculptor François Auguste René Rodin. The exhibition brings together famous and lesser-known work by the artist. Thanh and I visited in May.
Slow(er) Eurocity Brussels – Mons – Paris for Olympic and Paralympic Games in July and August 2024
As reported last year, NMBS / SNCB will operate a regular-speeds Eurocity train from Brussels in Belgium to Paris in France in collaboration with SNCF. This summer, the train will run twice daily during the Olympic Games, from 24 July to 11 August, and during the Paralympic Games, from 28 August to 8 September 2024….
