Thalys Brussels – Paris – Brussels – Antwerp in 2022

Paris! I haven’t been to the Ville Lumière since my January 2019 visit with Bert and Wim. Also, this March 2022 getaway in Paris marks the first overnight excursion with Thanh since our 2012 visit of the capital of France. Ten years ago!

Brussels’ Atomium

The Atomium is to Brussels what the Eiffel Tower is to Paris. Built as a temporary structure for a World’s Fair, but becoming a landmark for the city. But be careful, it’s dangerous, for a specific reason.

AfricaMuseum in Tervuren near Brussels

In December 2021, we visited the AfricaMuseum or Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA) in Tervuren. A historic building and institution in Belgium, it obviously has a controversial subject, as Belgium had the Congo, now the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) as a colony. When one mentions colony, one mentions abuse, exploitation and worse.

2022: continuation or progress?

On January 1st, 2021 we wrote “2021 a fresh start or a transition year?“. It seems like neither of those. A fresh start? Not really. 2020 and 2021 felt very similar. Transition? It implies 2022 would be like 2019. And that seems unlikely. Unfortunately, in 2022 COVID-19 will remain the main talking point.
