Tibidado Funicular in Barcelona disappears to reinvent itself as theme park attraction

In September the Tibidado Funicular wil cease activities as a regular mode of transport in Barcelona. It will close down for necessary security related engineering works and at reopening it will be part of Parc d’Atraccions Tibidabo, a theme park on Tibidado (the mountain).

According to La Vanguardia, six out of ten people going to Tibidado use the funicular. The city government or Ajuntament de Barcelona wants it to be more so it’s giving the funicular a revamp.

The EMU used will be a panoramic car with large windows and will include interactive screens and tablets. The lighting will have a futuristic touch and its effect will be enhanced when it becomes dark.

Therefore, the new name of the funicular will be that of Cuca de llum, Firefly.

The works will begin in September and will last for 14 months, with the intention of being able to inaugurate the new funicular in Autumn 2020.

So without knowing, I experienced a piece of future history in June. At 5:17 in the video you have footage of the funicular.
