To have some sun and warmth for her birthday my sister decided to travel around the Caribbean on an MSC cruise and asked my mum to join her on the trip. As there were no direct flights from Brussels to Miami they flew via London and had a few days at the beach of Miami Beach before setting sail.
To avoid missing their cruise sailing because of irregular flight operations my sister decided to fly two days earlier to Miami and spend some time at the beach of Miami beach.
They stayed at the Essex House Hotel, a classic Art Deco hotel in Miami Beach’s famous Art Deco district. The room was ok and had a nice double bed with a clean and functional bathroom. The products on offer where by Rituals which where a nice to have.
They didn’t try out a swim in the hotel’s outdoor pool but they did enjoy the concert given there in the morning by the bugs and birds living there.
Unfortunately the hotel was under renovation and breakfast was served across the road in sister hotel Clevelander. The breakfast was a very basic affair with some stale ‘croissants’ and pastries. While on the first morning it was served at 7 am which they awaited despite their jetlag, the 8am serving on the second morning was too late for them (especially considering the poor offer) and they decided to have a much nicer breakfast at Burger King instead.
During their time in Miami Beach they took a stroll along the beach and it’s traffic jam, had a look at the art-deco buildings and did some shopping.
For lunch they headed to the Big Pink, a restaurant serving delicious burgers where my sister and I also went to eat last time we went there. They have a friendly service and copious amounts of food served. The entire restaurant also has a bit of retro feel towards the time the Art Deco district was new.
Miami Beach is always a nice place to spend some time recovering from your jetlag before you get on your cruise. If you are a true beach lover it is one of the finest beaches to spend your day and for the architecture buffs the Art-Deco buildings are a feast to the eye.
