June 2024. For our first visit to the United States of America since the COVID-19 pandemic, we flew to New Orleans via London Heathrow with British Airways. After two days of exploring NOLA, Amtrak‘s Crescent overnight train brought us from Louisiana to New York, where we we stayed one night only before flying home.

This six-day trip to New Orleans and New York marked our return to the United States since 2019. In five years, many things changed, but the US felt familiar enough. 

20% tipping has become the standard now, eSims replace looking for an actual sim cards and cash has all but disappeared out of the equation. 

We enjoyed this trip. It offered what we like: good hotels, nice food, cities with plenty on offer and a long train journey. The hot summer weather was a bonus, as autumn 2023, winter 2023-2024 and spring 2024 mostly offered our home country Belgium dreary, grey, mostly wet and cloudy weather.
