After Bonn in 2023 and Münster in 2024, Dennis and I went further than North Rhine-Westphalia for our 2025 Christmas market in Germany outing. We went to Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate, at the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle rivers. Hence the name of the city.
Dennis booked three nights at Four Points Flex by Sheraton Koblenz. I had never heard of Four Points Flex by Sheraton.
Four Points Flex by Sheraton
Four Points Flex by Sheraton is a relatively new brand within Marriott International’s global portfolio, developed in response to changing travel patterns and growing demand for reliable, affordable accommodation in well-connected locations. The brand is positioned in the midscale segment and is built around the idea of delivering exactly what many modern travellers need – and little more. Rather than competing on luxury or extensive facilities, Four Points Flex focuses on comfort, consistency, efficiency and value.
The concept is deliberately pared back. Guest rooms are modern and functional, designed to provide a good night’s sleep, a practical workspace and the core amenities expected by both business and leisure travellers.
Complimentary Wi-Fi, climate control, sound insulation and straightforward breakfast offerings are central to the experience.
Public spaces are simple and purposeful, encouraging short stays and easy circulation rather than lingering or socialising around extensive food-and-beverage concepts. This makes the brand particularly suitable for city trips, overnight stops, rail-based travel and business visits where location and reliability are more important than additional services.
Within Marriott’s brand architecture, Four Points Flex sits below the established Four Points by Sheraton brand. While Four Points by Sheraton has traditionally occupied the upper midscale space with more extensive facilities and a stronger business-hotel focus, Four Points Flex moves further towards the value-driven end of the spectrum.
It bridges the gap between economy hotels and higher midscale brands by offering better consistency and international standards than budget accommodation, while remaining price-conscious and operationally lean.
A defining characteristic of Four Points Flex is its strong appeal to hotel owners and investors. The brand has been designed from the outset as a conversion-friendly platform. Existing hotels can be rebranded with relatively limited structural changes, allowing them to retain much of their original layout while adopting Marriott’s systems, standards and brand identity.
This significantly lowers investment thresholds compared with upscale or full-service brands, while still unlocking access to Marriott Bonvoy, global sales channels and international brand recognition. This owner-focused strategy has been central to the brand’s rapid rollout.
2023
The brand was first introduced in 2023 in Europe, the Middle East and Africa under the name Four Points Express by Sheraton. From the beginning, it was clearly aimed at mature, competitive hotel markets with strong domestic and regional travel demand.
In 2024, Marriott renamed the concept Four Points Flex by Sheraton, a move intended to emphasise adaptability, conversion potential and operational flexibility. Since then, the brand has expanded quickly across Europe, particularly in urban centres and transport hubs, and has been identified by Marriott as one of its fastest-growing brands in the region.

Four Points Flex by Sheraton Koblenz
Four Points Flex by Sheraton Koblenz illustrates this positioning particularly well. The hotel occupies a highly strategic location directly adjacent to Koblenz Hauptbahnhof or Koblenz Main Station, making it exceptionally convenient for guests arriving by train and for those using Koblenz as a base to explore the Rhine and Moselle valleys. From the hotel, the historic city centre, river promenades and key landmarks such as the Deutsches Eck are all within easy reach on foot or by public transport. This strong transport-oriented location aligns perfectly with the Four Points Flex emphasis on accessibility and practicality.
The building originally opened in 2010 as GHOTEL hotel & living Koblenz, a modern midscale property aimed at both business and leisure travellers. As part of Marriott’s expansion of Four Points Flex in Germany, the hotel underwent a comprehensive renovation and was rebranded to reflect the new concept. The update focused on refreshing interiors, modernising rooms and public areas, and aligning operations with Marriott’s standards and digital infrastructure, while retaining the hotel’s functional layout and efficient design.
Today, Four Points Flex by Sheraton Koblenz offers approximately 120 guest rooms in various categories, all designed around comfort and functionality rather than decorative luxury. Rooms typically feature air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flat-screen televisions, work desks, safes and sound-proofed windows, ensuring a quiet and practical environment despite the central station location. The overall aesthetic is contemporary and restrained, reflecting the brand’s no-nonsense approach.
Public facilities at the hotel support short, efficient stays. A 24-hour reception ensures flexibility for late arrivals and early departures, while the bar and lounge area provides a relaxed space for a drink or informal meeting. Breakfast is offered in a simple, buffet-style format, consistent with the brand’s emphasis on convenience rather than extensive dining. Additional practical features include underground parking with direct access, bicycle storage for guests exploring the surrounding region, accessibility provisions and pet-friendly rooms.
In keeping with the wider Four Points Flex philosophy, the Koblenz property does not aim to be a destination hotel in itself. Instead, it positions itself as a dependable base: a place where guests can rely on comfort, cleanliness, good connectivity and international standards. This makes it particularly attractive to business travellers, rail passengers, city-break visitors and tourists exploring the Upper Middle Rhine Valley who want a well-located hotel with predictable quality and good value.
Taken together, Four Points Flex by Sheraton and the Koblenz property demonstrate Marriott’s broader strategic shift towards simplified, scalable brands that reflect contemporary travel behaviour. By focusing on essentials, flexibility and strong locations, the brand addresses a growing segment of travellers who are less interested in traditional hotel luxury and more concerned with efficiency, affordability and trust in a recognised name.
A review
A very welcoming receptionist introduced us to the hotel and told us what we needed to know about the room and breakfast.
We were asked if we wanted housekeeping. Yes. Every day? Yes. Did we get it? No… not once. Not getting housekeeping every day has become the norm, post-pandemic. And I wouldn’t expect it in a 100 euros a night hotel (breakfast not included). But when you offer it, deliver. We didn’t complain though. We just asked for fresh towels
The room
The room has everything you expect. A German style bed, i.e. two mattresses and two folded duvets which you need to unfold yourself. A wardrobe, a coat hanger, a desk and chair. Enough power sockets. A large mirror. A very large television.
What it doesn’t feature? There’s no telephone, no tea kettle or coffee setup. There are no glasses, but we asked for some.
The power is regulated with the room key card. The lights go out immediately. No minute of time to get out.

The bathroom
The bathroom is basic with a toilet, a shower and a sink. The shower is easy to figure out. Toiletries are branded ‘Activ body care‘. And in the shower shampoo, conditioner and body wash are placed in that – the right – sequence. That’s nice and not as standard as you might think.

Breakfast
Breakfast was not included in our booking, but we had breakfast at the hotel anyway. Breakfasts can be really elaborate in hotels in Germany. This wasn’t that elaborate.
Expect English breakfast items such as bacon, eggs (scrambled and hard boiled) and beans. No sausages. One day there were tomatoes in cheese.
There are cold cuts, some vegetables, but no gherkins. Gherkins are a staple of German food. Meats, cheeses.
Also: yoghurts, fruit, cereals and bread. Juices, tea and coffee. Butter came out an intricate dispenser.
For 18 euros, it’s decent breakfast, but not mind blowing. Over the three mornings we had breakfast, the offering remained 90% unchanged.

Parking
The hotel has a deal with the Bahnhof Tiefgarage (underground parking). Instead of 20 euros per day, we paid 15 per day. The garage has a direct access to the hotel. Very nice when it rains, it snows or it’s too hot and sunny.
So?
The price-quality ratio at Four Points Flex Koblenz was excellent. As intended, it fits short stays.
