A major exhibition opening in 2027 and a recently published book are placing LGBTQIA+ narratives at the centre of Belgian art history, arguing that queer stories have long been present in artworks but have often been overlooked, ignored or reinterpreted through a heterosexual lens.

QUEER ARTS | WOEKER brings trans and gender-diverse art and activism to Antwerp, Ghent, Leuven, Hasselt, and Bruges
A new arts and activism platform will put trans and gender-diverse artists in the spotlight across Flanders this November. WOEKER runs from 13 to 29 November 2026, with events in Antwerp, Ghent, Leuven, and Hasselt, as well as some activities in Bruges. The initiative coincides with Transgender Awareness Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance.
