UNITED KINGDOM | Three days in London

In 2024, I showed Oscar from Denver, Colorado the highlights of London. It was his first time in England. In contrast, Thanh and I have been to the capital of the United Kingdom many times. During the weekend of Pentecost 2026, we went together for a weekend of museums, food, and a concert.

The Mall, the Victoria Monument, and Buckingham Palace.

Three, almost full days in London. Arriving at 10:00 on a Saturday and leaving on Monday at 18:00 gives almost three full days. And yes, the last hours include a lot of “what time is it?”, but that’s inevitable.

We managed to include many spots, sights and sites we hadn’t done in London, which is a good thing.

We discovered almost by accident accident a completely (re)developed area near King’s Cross, with the Coal Drops Yard. We visited Queer Britain and walked all the way to Boys! Boys! Boys! Gallery Café. In between we walked really quiet streets.

Saturday Evening was a more touristy, with the banks of River Thames across the Palace of Westminster. But dinner at Lasdun at the National Theatre was very calm and relaxed.

Sunday featured V&A East Storehouse, the V&A East Museum and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The afternoon gave us afternoon tea at Oblix, at The Shard. In the evening, we roamed the City of London with Bank Junction, the Roman Wall and a classical concert by the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican Centre. We returned to the hotel via Buckingham Palace for by-night photos.

Buckingham Palace.

Monday, departure day featured parks. Battersea Power Station and its adjacent Battersea Park. Then via Albert Bridge and lunch at Ottolenghi Chelsea to Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.

Like this, three days felt ‘efficient’ as in ‘not wasted time doing nothing new or interesting’. But we also didn’t overdo it. We had regular stops or took buses between sites to have some sitting-down time.

In conclusion? A wonderful weekend, helped by gorgeous summery weather. London was having a heatwave in May.
