Early 2020 AD. Danny and I embark on a 21st century Odyssey. On the Majestic Princess from Sydney to New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji. Back to Sydney, then to Melbourne and flying back home.
We did this cruise before the coronavirus epidemic became a pandemic. We are very aware the travel industry and in particular the cruising industry is hit hard by the consequences of the pandemic. Travelling and cruising may never be the same again. But this is how we experienced cruising on the Majestic Princess in January and February 2020.
What a difference with MSC Sinfonia in 2019.
After check-out from the InterContinental we walked to the Overseas Passengers Terminal at Circular Quay. We arrived there at 11.30 AM. We dropped our luggage and left them into the hands of a handsome attendant and made our way to check-in. There the equally handsome Adam checked us in on Majestic Princess. He gave us our cruise cards and a map of the ship.
Next step was border control which went extremely smoothly, followed by an even more smooth security checkpoint.
We could finally board the ship. Majestic Princess offered two or three lunch options and at 11.50 AM we were seated at Alfredo’s pizza restaurant.
That’s right. Twenty minutes from arriving at the terminal to be seated with cruise card at a restaurant.
Try to beat that!
Our stateroom was ready shortly before 1PM and our luggage was there at 1.30PM.
So it can be done.
