Sydney Mardi Gras 2021 happening at coronaproof Sydney Cricket Ground

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras announced COVID-safe plans for the 43rd annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade – on Saturday 6 March 2021 we’re taking over the Sydney Cricket Ground for Australia’s celebration of LGBTQI+ pride and diversity.

“To ensure the safety of all our parade participants, spectators and the community at large, the 2021 parade will be at the SCG, where a capacity of 23,000 audience members will watch on as community groups unite in an extravagant show of pride and passion”, the organisation says.

Parade partner SBS will broadcast the entire event live, so you could also watch from anywhere you are in Australia.

“The 2021 Mardi Gras theme is ‘RISE’ a poignant message during the challenge and hardship that 2020 has presented. It’s a call to action that now is the time to RISE again through love, compassion, respect and understanding, and to work together to make the world a better place for all.”

“Mardi Gras has always been the epitome of creative expression through art and culture; two things severely impacted by COVID-19 this year,” says Mardi Gras CEO Albert Kruger

“So it was important to Mardi Gras that we rise to the occasion and to give the community the creative platform to express their pride to the world.

“The 2021 pParade may look different to how it has been in the past, but we feel very lucky to be able to give this opportunity to our communities during these times.”

Tickets will be available to the general public at 2pm AEDT on Monday 9 November – Adults AU$20, Group bookings of four $50, Children under 15 or concession AU$15. This small ticket price helps Mardi Gras cover the cost of operating this event under a COVID Safe Model.

Mardi Gras members will receive 2 complimentary tickets to the Parade event.
