June 2024. For our first visit to the United States of America since the COVID-19 pandemic, we flew to New Orleans via London Heathrow with British Airways. After two days of exploring NOLA, Amtrak‘s Crescent overnight train brought us from Louisiana to New York, where we we stayed one night only before flying home.
Our final night in the USA we spent in ‘the big apple’ New York. Here we selected the Hyatt Herald Square, located close to Penn Station where our Amtrak train would arrive at and where we would be able to catch a LIRR train to JFK.

The hotel is located in a rather grey providing a bit of a forecourt. Inside the lobby was much more welcoming and colourful. Upon entering you could immediately smell a nice scent. As we arrived quite late the clerk helped us immediately for check-in, however as he was still new we had to wait for his supervisor to appear as our booking was apparently a bit more complicated than a standard booking. In the end we received our room keys and a (paid) late check-out of 15:00 (as our flight left JFK late).

We received a room on the 2nd floor, with only eight rooms per floor the hotel felt rather small. The room had a bit of a quirky design, with art piece being above the bed on the ceiling rather than on the wall behind the bed. Centrally located was the big king-sized bed, with power plugs at both sides of the bed. The room also offered coffee and tea making facilities and a complimentary bottle of water each in the mini fridge.

The bathroom was of an average size, but offered small towels. The products where nice smelling and in multiple use dispensers, except for the hand soap which was in an old-fashioned bar.

The shower itself was quirky and annoying. There was a dial to set the temperature but you had to push a button to get the water flowing. I guess normally you would push it and is sticks for a bit to allow you to shower. However it clearly wasn’t working properly anymore as you had to hold in the button while trying to shower, very annoying.

In the morning Timothy got up early to enjoy his favourite activity, a visit to the gym. Located in the basement of the building he got his first workout session of the trip.
Breakfast was served in the lobby bar and consisted of a menu of made to order items. The food was of good quality only the tea cups where tiny and a second serving of tea would have been appreciated.

All in all we had another solid stay. Except for the shower there wasn’t really anything we could fault the hotel with. The rates where reasonable for New York. The room was of a good size and for the intent of our trip the location was unbeatable.
