Brussels Airlines notes increased demand for travel within Europe and is therefore adding approximately 170 flights to several European destinations this summer. In parallel, Brussels Airlines also sees strong demand for leisure destinations in Africa and adds capacity to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania during the winter season.

In total, Brussels Airlines will add 60,000 extra seats to its European network in summer 2026. The airline has extra capacity due to new aircraft that have been delivered sooner than expected and an anticipated lower demand in the Middle East.

To cope with the high demand for travel within Europe, Brussels Airlines will add flights to the following destinations:

• Ljubljana in Slovenia and Bilbao in the Basque Country: three extra weekly flights in July and August.
• Prague in Czechia and Alicante in Spain: two extra weekly flights in July and August.
• Athens in Greece, Zadar in Croatia, Faro in Portugal, and Valencia in Spain will each receive one additional weekly frequency in July and August.

“As demand for travel across Europe continues to grow, we are pleased to increase our capacity this summer, offering customers more choice, greater flexibility, and convenient connections to some of the region’s most popular destinations”, Jan Derycke, Head of Commercial Offer Management, Brussels Airlines, says.

These additional flights are scheduled in close cooperation with Lufthansa Group. Other carriers from Lufthansa Group are also adding capacity on their continental network.

On 3 June, Brussels Airlines will inaugurate a new connection between Brussels and Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. This route was initially scheduled as a summer-only service, but due to strong demand, Brussels Airlines will continue operating flights to Kilimanjaro in winter (from October to February).

One weekly flight is added between 28 October and 16 December, and two weekly flights are scheduled between 19 December and 21 February.

Geopolitical context

The geopolitical environment remains highly volatile, which can have an impact on both prices and demand. At present, however, demand for travel remains high.

Nevertheless, Lufthansa Group – of which Brussels Airlines is a part of – is currently developing and evaluating scenarios to enable a rapid response to changes in the market environment.
