Brussels Airlines and Tomorrowland party flights to use 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel

From now on, only Green Fares will be integrated in the Global Journey Package and 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) will be purchased for all party flights for Belgium‘s prime international festival Tomorrowland in Boom

In 2024 Tomorrowland party flights will be more sustainable. Brussels Airlines (SN) and Tomorrowland close a partnership to purchase 100% SAF for all these specific flights. This can save up to 80% CO2-emissions. Next to that, Green Fares are the standard plane ticket integrated in the Global Journey package for the international festivalgoers. Brussels Airlines aims to close more partnerships like this in order to reduce its carbon footprint significantly.

Brussels Airlines and Tomorrowland are aware of their ecological impact – and criticism on the matter – and have been investing for many years now in reducing their footprint.

The partners are trying to find a balance between their passion for music and travel and their responsibility to protect the planet for future generations.

“Embarking on a journey towards a better world tomorrow begins with the steps we take today. Together with Brussels Airlines we can unite festivalgoers from around the globe at Tomorrowland in Belgium. Now we are working collaboratively to amplify the power of collective action and create positive change for all, that starts with us. The People of Tomorrow can contribute to sustainability projects and at the same time reduce the environmental impact of their flights”, Debby Wilmsen, Head of Media Relations & Internal Communication at Tomorrowland, says in an SN press release.

For the 11th time, Brussels Airlines will bring partygoers from all over the world to Belgium, to the internationally renowned music festival. For the edition of 2024, all sold plane tickets in the Global Journey packages will be Green Fares. This is a specific fare of Brussels Airlines and all Lufthansa Group Airlines where passengers can purchase 20% Sustainable Aviation Fuel and contribute for 80% to high-quality, Belgian and local climate compensation projects.

On the special party flights, both partners even take it a step further. In addition to the Green Fare, Brussels Airlines and Tomorrowland contribute to the other 80% SAF, and buying 100% SAF for these flights. Lufthansa Group will purchase the equivalent of SAF for the fuel necessary for these party flights. The SAF will be distributed within Lufthansa Group.

“At Brussels Airlines, we work very hard to combine our passion to discover the world with our responsibility to protect it for future generations. We aim to halve net carbon emissions by 2030 compared to 2019, and to be carbon neutral by 2050. Sustainable Aviation Fuel, together with fleet renewal, is a key lever in obtaining these goals. Lufthansa Group is already one of the biggest SAF-buyers in the world. We encourage every individual passenger to contribute to more SAF, with our Green Fares”, Balázs Németh, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Brussels Airlines, says.

The tickets will go on sale as of today, 6th December. All details can be found here.

100% SAF for as many partnerships as possible

Brussels Airlines will try to convince as much partners as possible to close similar agreements. Football team Royal Union Saint-Gilloise is already a partner that joined the coalition. As of now, 100% SAF will be purchased for their flights when they travel to international games.

What is SAF?

  • The SAF currently used by Lufthansa Group is produced from biogenic residues, such as used cooking oils.
  • SAF is a decisive lever to more sustainable flying and is essential to the energy transition in aviation.
  • SAF can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%
  • Today, Lufthansa Group is one of the five largest SAF customers worldwide.
  • Being a so-called ‘drop-in’ fuel, SAF is compatible with fossil fuel and can be blended without any problems.
