Ljubljana Castle

Ljulbjana Castle or Ljubljanski grad is arguably the main attraction in Ljubljana. The fortress dominates the skyline of Slovenia‘s capital.

The 15 euros per person Danny and I paid included a roundtrip to the top with the funicular, entry to the castle and a guided tour dubbed ‘Time Machine‘.

This ‘Time Machine’ is a comprehensive tour of the castle. Actors dressed up as Romans, as Saint George, as Holy Roman Emperor Frederick III and Eleanor of Portugal, as Napoleon an a nun, as a prisoner and as a 19th century mayor.

Although perhaps a bit childish, it’s nice way to discover Slovenian history.

But there are other rooms, halls and exhibitions to discover in the castle. The highest tower provides for a nice view of the city and the surrounding mountains.

The castle is absolutely worth a visit. Allow two hours.
