ANTWERP | Kammenstraat car-free for more than three weeks during the 2024 end-of-year period

During the 2024 end-of-year sales period, the Kammenstraat in Antwerp will once again be closed to cars. This measure applies from Friday 13 December 2024 to Monday 6 January 2025, between 11 AM and 7 PM.

The City of Antwerp has developed temporary traffic measures in the area to keep the surrounding streets and car parks accessible.

Kammenstraat is located near the De Wilde Zee pedestrian area. By making the streets car-free, the city has expanded the pedestrian areas so that shoppers can do their shopping unhindered.

As in previous years, the disappearing bollard at the intersection of Kammenstraat and Oudaan will go up between 11 AM and 7 PM.

Temporary traffic measures

The City of Antwerp has developed temporary traffic measures in the area to provide local residents and visitors with smooth passage and to keep the car parks accessible.

  • Everdijstraat: closed at the Oudaan car park;
  • Sleutelstraat: closed at Kammenstraat. Traffic can reach the street via Nationalestraat;
  • Sint-Antoniusstraat: closed at Kammenstraat, traffic can reach the street via Nationalestraat;
  • Lombardenstraat: two-way traffic and local parking ban;
  • Geefsstraat: car traffic allowed and mandatory right turn from Geefsstraat to Schoenmarkt (except public transport);
  • Schoenmarkt: one-way direction towards Meirburg;
  • Eiermarkt: one-way between Meirbrug and entrance to Meir car park and this in the direction of the car park;
  • Oudaan: traffic from the car park must turn left and leave via Lange Gasthuisstraat.

The parking guidance will be adjusted to a route without Kammenstraat. Traffic signs with the changed traffic situation will be placed at Oudaan, Lombardenvest and Meirbrug.

The Leopoldstraat and Kasteelpleinstraat will be signposted that the Kammenstraat is car-free. Residents of the Everdijstraat and the Kammenstraat can apply to operate the disappearing bollard.

In order to also give more space to shoppers in the Nationalestraat, a parking ban will be set up again in the section from the Lange Vlierstraat to the Groenplaats

The loading and unloading zones and the parking spaces reserved for people with a disability will remain available.
