No cancellations at Brussels Airlines due to software updates Airbus

“After careful assessment, only a limited number of aircraft in the Brussels Airlines fleet is impacted by the Airbus software-issues”, SN spokesperson Nico Cardone updates the press on 29 November 2025. “Most of them have already received the necessary maintenance during last night. Some more aircraft will be undergoing the updates today during the day. At this time, no cancellations are foreseen at Brussels Airlines.”

“Safety is our top priority. Like all airlines affected worldwide, we will strictly comply with all requirements from the manufacturer and the authorities. We would like to express our gratitude to our colleagues at Maintenance and Engineering for their unwavering support.”

What happened?  Large-scale Airbus recall affects 6,000 aircraft worldwide

The statement follows a major precautionary recall by Airbus, which announced Friday that approximately 6,000 A320-family aircraft — more than half of all active aircraft of this type — will require a software update. The manufacturer confirmed that the action stems from a technical vulnerability linked to intense solar radiation, which may interfere with critical flight data.

Airbus has acknowledged that the update programme may result in “possible operational disruptions” for airlines across the network. While most aircraft can reportedly be updated quickly, sources cited by Bloomberg indicate that around 1,000 older airframes may require more extensive and time-consuming hardware upgrades. Airbus has so far declined to provide further technical comment.

Triggered by JetBlue incident

The global action follows an incident on 30 October involving a JetBlue aircraft travelling from Newark near New York to Cancún in Mexico. The aircraft experienced a sudden computer malfunction, temporarily lost altitude and became unresponsive to pilot input. No injuries were reported, and the flight was safely diverted to Tampa. The event prompted a full technical assessment by Airbus, culminating in this week’s precautionary recall.
