Belgium allows non-essential leisure travel from and to EU Member States

The Consultative Committee of Governments has as expected decided to allow non-essential leisure travel from and to member states of the European Union. Starting 19 April. But it’s not a free pass.

Tuesday was a big day for rail news. Privateers European Sleeper from the Netherlands and Moonlight Express from Belgium announced night train services from Brussels to Berlin. Earlier, the Austrian Federal Railway carrier ÖBB (with its Nightjet brand) also showed interest in linking Brussels to Berlin. Are three sleeper services too much? Perhaps not.

New COVID-19 lockdown in Belgium: ‘Easter Time-Out’ includes shopping on appointment only, domestic excursions remain possible

The Consultative Committee has announced a new lockdown of and in Belgium, as there are much more infections registered, many more people are taken to hospital and the intensive care units (ICUs) are being filled with people suffering from COVID-19 induced health issues.

Belgium to allow leisure travel within European Union and Schengen Area from 19 April

COVID-19 | The updated Ministerial Decree of Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden (CD&V) confirms leisure travel outside Belgium and within the European Union and the Schengen Area will be allowed from 19 April. That is after the Easter School Holiday. 

COVID-19 | Belgium’s ban on leisure travel abroad prolonged until 18 April 2021

On Friday 5 March the Consultative Committee of Governments has decided to prolong the ban on leisure travel to and from Belgium to 18 April. That is after the Easter School Holiday.

European Sleeper Coöperatie U.A. is set to launch a sleeper train service from the Netherlands and Belgium in April 2022. In April 2021 the company will announce destination.

No leisure travel to and from Belgium: these are the rules

From today, 27 January 2021, until 1 March 2021, travel to and from the Kingdom of Belgium is severely restricted. The Ministerial Decree has been published in the Belgian Monitor, Belgium’s Official Journal.
