Autumn 2024. Ten years after my first trip to Seoul in 2014, I am returning to the Republic of Korea, better known as South Korea. Not solo this time, but with Oriol, who has never been to Korea. On the itinerary: flying with Qatar Airways to Incheon via Doha, the capital Seoul, the historic city of Gyeongju, Busan, Jeju Island and a second stint in Seoul, where we are joined by Sehyeon. We’re spending two weeks in South Korea. The ROK is such a popular destination now. Will we experience overtourism?

Taking a break of nature’s wonders, we went to the Museum of Sex & Health (건강과성박물관) in Seogwipo. Also, it’s a nice follow-up of The Icelandic Phallological Museum in Reykjavík.
The Museum of Sex & Health is a museum dedicated to exploring themes of human sexuality, relationships, and health through art, exhibits, and educational displays.
Established in 2004, the museum features various themed halls and outdoor gardens with sculptures, artworks, and informational panels. Inside, visitors can view exhibits on the history of sexuality, human anatomy, and the cultural aspects of sex across different societies.
There are also galleries displaying erotic artwork, sculptures, and multimedia presentations that provide educational insights into topics like sexual health and relationships.
Outside, the gardens contain sculptures of different interpretations of love and sexuality.
The museum is popular with adults seeking an open, educational experience that presents sexuality in an artistic and cultural context, making it a distinctive attraction on Jeju.

A visit
The Museum of Sex & Health slaloms between two purposes: making you giggle because ‘sex’ and being actually informative. Some section really are informative and educates about anatomy, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), sex-related statistics and (sexual) health in general.
Other sections show eroticism and porn in history and all over the world. And the third category are the sections with ‘art’ which are just camp and / or tacky.
Homosexuality is by the way discussed, but not too much. It’s still Korea.

Korean
Most panels are in Korean, so use your Papago app or other translation op. Masturbation is apparently ‘self-defense’. Cute.

So?
It’s okay, it’s something else. But the Penis Museum in Iceland was quirkier.

😏
I think it’s really cool how open-minded people are about health-related issues in South Korea. Have you ever been to the Toilet Museum in Suwon?
I have not! But it sounds like I should :).
Well, who knew? You did! And now, so do we. 💯
Haha!
