ANTWERP PRIDE 2024 | Parade to be filmed and streamed, 85 floats and delegations

The 17th edition of Antwerp Pride takes place from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 11 August 2024. This year’s theme is ‘Many Voices. One Pride‘. The organising committee advocates a more militant pride, with a “we’re not going back in the closet” attitude in reaction to rising conservatism and conformism. But let’s face it: pride is also celebration. In the run up to August, let’s look at activities and events. Also don’t forget Antwerp Queer Arts Festival from 3 to 31 August.

No fewer than 85 delegations will parade through the streets of the city, with lots of colour, protest and a positive message. For the first time, the Antwerp Pride Parade will be broadcast live on local television network ATV, Proximus Pickx and various other Flemish media platforms.

The Antwerp Pride Parade, the eye-catcher of pride week, is growing every year. 74 delegations participated last year, this year there are no fewer than 85, including 42 motorised delegations (small and large vehicles).

“We welcome Queers without Beers, the senior citizens’ organisation Queer on Wheels, and the Famba band is also back”, the press release says.

Maison Arc-en-Ciel Luxembourg, Brussels Pride, the drag collective Cabaret Nouveau and the Spanish Tourism Office are also some of the newcomers.

For the first time, the Antwerp Pride Parade will be broadcast live on ATV and Proximus Pickx. The images will also be streamed live on GoPlay, OUTtv, GVA, VTM GO, VRT MAX, HLN, De Morgen, De Standaard Online and HBvL Online. This means that the spectacle can be followed live throughout Flanders

Nathalie Delporte, Evy Gruyaert, Saartje Vandendriessche, Marie Niasse, Désirée De Caluwé and Charlotte Leysen will be on site for the reporting and will talk to interesting guests about their pride experience and commitment in between.

Other special names include Red Sebastian and Jelle Van Dael. They will perform on the Antwerp Pride truck, the last in the column, and in this way invite everyone to follow the Antwerp Pride truck to the festival site.

You don’t want to be filmed?

The cameras for this live recording will be located at the St. Anne’s Pedestrian Tunnel at Sint-Jansvliet

Participants in the parade who prefer not to be on camera will be asked to leave the parade before that point. They can then rejoin in the Kloosterstraat

Planning

Participants of the parade first gather at the Sint-Jansplein from  noon, to then line up under police escort from the Paardenmarkt. At 2 PM sharp, the parade starts at the Oude Leeuwenrui. From there, it goes via the Brouwersvliet to the Scheldt Quays and then southwards.

At the pedestrian tunnel at the Sint-Jansvliet, the Parade leaves the quays, to continue via the Kloosterstraat and Scheldestraat to the Cockerillkaai and then to the end point at the Gerlachekaai

The Antwerp Pride Love United Festival starts at that time on the Cockerillkaai. The first groups will arrive at the end point around 4 PM.

“We ask the public to spread out well over the route. There are excellent places to watch the Parade along the entire route. Water-Link will once again provide several drinking fountains along the route.”
