September 2025. After Oscar came to London in June 2024 and I joined him there for a day, I’m now going to his hometown of Denver in Colorado. My second trip to the United States in 2025, after visiting my uncle and aunt in Wilmington, North Carolina. No, Denver is is not on foreign tourists’ mind when travelling to the US. But that doesn’t bother me. Quite the contrary.
Time to go home. Checking out at Catbird Hotel in the River North neighbourhood aka RiNo Art District was super swift. The A-line light rail run by Regional Transport District (RTD Denver) is very convenient to get to Denver International Airport.
United Club B Gates East
I have four hours to kill, and as I’m travelling business class with Lufthansa, I can get to into the United Club business class lounges. I go to United Club B Gates East.
The United Airlines website doesn’t provide us with usual marketing talk about its lounge, but the airport website does.
“Located on the eastern side in the B Concourse near gate B-44, this new club location touts 35,000 sq.-ft. across three levels and more than 600 seats, making it the largest club in United’s network. The space reflects Denver’s beer scene with brewery-inspired elements and a new beer tasting experience at the feature bar on the mezzanine level. At the feature bar, travelers can choose from a seasonal rotation of 10 local and craft beers on tap, with selections from Colorado breweries New Belgium, Great Divide, Denver Beer Company, Upslope, among others, to enjoy from United customized tasting boards and beer glasses. The feature bar area is distinguished by five Vestaboards displaying personalized messages and menu offerings and a custom, vibrant blue mural by visual artist Charlo Garcia Walterbach that explores the joy and discovery of new places that travel brings to life.”
“The Club includes enhanced amenities, such as free high-speed Wi-Fi, self-scan entry gates for seamless club access, agent on demand kiosks for any travel planning questions and wellness rooms.”
“It also serves premium culinary offerings with local flair, including oatmeal paired with Colorado honey, egg frittata inspired by the Denver omelet (ham, bell peppers, red onion, spinach and cheddar cheese), Colorado Club sandwiches and pork green chili.”
“Inspired by Denver’s urban areas, the space features details such as concrete flooring, hand-crafted decor and exposed ceilings for a sleek and modern design. Throughout the space, guests can enjoy a variety of locally-sourced furnishings and artwork, including photography, paintings, sculptures and murals that reflect the Denver community. The entryway features a sculpture inspired by the cones of the Colorado Blue Spruce.”
“Made by Will Schlough, the piece is crafted from dozens of skateboards meant to resemble colorful pinecones. An additional statement mural by local artists, Jaime Molina and Pedro Barrios, tells the story of Denver through highly-visual, street art inspired geometric shapes.”
United Club B Gates East in practice
There are two large levels. The colour palette is dominated by dark blue. Marine blue? Maybe, or almost. American brand lobe, love, love dark blue for setting this executive, high-end, businessy tone.
As in any decent lounge, there different types of seating. Restaurant-type tables and chairs, living room-style seats and coffee tables, work stations with high chairs, lounge-type chairs. The classics.
I, of course, want a restaurant-type and height table with a chair I can use to eat without staining myself and then to use my laptop. I find such a spot. Hurray. Because this United Club is so large, I find an available table.
The foods and drinks offering is quite comprehensive, but unsurprising. Coffee, tea, water, little snacks. A few warm ‘main course’ options. Sandwiches and wraps.
And there’s dessert. Yay for dessert. Lemon tart and chocolate chip cookies. Good job, United.
The WiFi is good. The cleaning-the-table service is fast.
Are there more amenities? Maybe. There’s a spa & wellness, but I didn’t get to see its features. Showers? Maybe. Probably.
I had good, relaxing time at United Club B Gates East, where I could also write some of the Denver blog posts.
But it was time to explore the other one.
United Club A Gates West
The United Club A Gates West were closer to my departure gate, so I decided to end there.
“Influenced by the Colorado Rocky Mountains, travelers visiting the new club location on the western side of the A Concourse near gate A26 can experience a sense of place among locally-sourced furniture and decor that reflects Colorado’s outdoor landscapes and experiences. Designed to feel like a ski lodge, two fireplace lounges, stacked wood, flannel patterned cushions and vintage ski decor make travelers feel like they’re nestled deep in the woods on a Colorado retreat.”
“This 24,000 sq.-ft club offers two premium bars and 400 seats across two levels of club space. There’s room to grab food and drinks, play a few rounds of shuffleboard in the game lounge or relax near the fireplaces.”
“éThe space features hand-crafted, custom artwork from local artists, including a sculptural installation from Colorado-based artist Amy Hoagland that uses glass rods to form a topographic-inspired piece that creates an optical illusion from different vantage points. A custom ‘Come Fly With Us’ mural by Denver-based multidisciplinary designer Adam Vicarel is prominently displayed in the club’s game lounge, and it showcases a combination of colors and shapes that exemplify travel and the Colorado landscape. Still a very large lounge, it feels ‘small’ compared to the other one. Also because it was much more crowded. Again, different seating options. After ‘running around’, as one would drive around to find a good parking spot, I found a booth-style seat, where I could eat some more dessert and blog.
But soon, it was time to go to my gate.
So?
The United Club lounges are pretty decent, but not extraordinary. Business lounges in the USA get mixed reviews, but there was nothing wrong with these two.
