CORONAVIRUS | Culinary, food and drinks markets in Antwerp go ahead

The Federal Government of Belgium has imposed significant measures to deal with coronavirus COVID-19. What does this mean for Antwerp?

Shops and stores with non-essential goods must close in weekends, so people don’t go shopping in high streets such as the Meir. Pharmacies and food shops such as supermarkets and convenience stores stay open on Saturdays and Sundays.

The same is true for markets. During the week markets operate as usual.

Weekend markets such as Exotische Markt (‘Exotic Market‘) on Saturday and Vogelenmarkt (‘Birds’ Market‘) on Sunday also go ahead, albeit only with vendors selling food.

These measures are expected to stay put until 3 April 2020.
