Stoomcentrum Maldegem holds it annual Stoomtreinfestival or Steam Train Festival on 4 and 5 May. Steam trains will run between Maldegem and Eeklo in the province of East Flanders in Belgium.
Maldegem and Eeklo are located north of Ghent. Belgium doesn’t have many heritage railways, but Maldegem – Eeklo is one of them.
The Festival expect steam engine 29.013 to make an appearance. 29.013 was last used in 1966 and hauled Belgium’s last steam powered passengers’ train.
Seven
Seven steam engines will pull coaches from the 1930 with plush seats or wooden benches. There are standard-gauge and narrow-gauge trains.
Practical
The Steam Train Festival is reachable by train. Go to Eeklo. Opening hours are 10AM to 6PM.

Not yet, most of my travel has been on the Eurorail. I’ve heard great things about the CA Zephyr. I’m also fond of the small gauge steam engines but haven’t ridden one yet. It’s on my list : )

Seattle. There’s actually one in the Mt. Rainier National Park, about 2 hours from here. Also a line in Alaska. I haven’t gotten to either of them yet…
