REVIEW | Park Hotel Hong Kong in Kowloon

It’s been a while since I used a travel agent to plan a trip. But a major travel agent in Belgium posted a deal one can’t refuse in a newsletter in June 2023. Flights from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific and three nights at the four-star Park Hotel Hong Kong in the Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon area. So I messaged Oriol in ‘panic’ and pressured him to decide quickly (as the deal was popular and the the offer limited in time and availability) to come along to this Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China. Being four days in Hong Kong, we used one of these days to Macau (also often spelled Macao) the other SAR. We were there in November 2023.

We didn’t actively choose Park Hotel Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) in Kowloon, the travel agent did. But as a four-star hotel, it could only be okay to good.

Check-in and reception

We found the Park Hotel relatively easily. And when I say “we”, I mean Oriol. Not far from Tsim Sha Tsui Station and not far from the Avenue of Stars

We were too early for our room to be ready, but we did all the formalities. Check-in was swift and friendly. We left our luggage at the concierge.

The lobby.

The room

Fast forward to a few hours later. After a first exploration of TST, we returned to the hotel. Our key cards awaited us.

The room is pretty standard, but its size surprised us. The square centimetre is valuable in Hong Kong. But two separate beds, a large desk, a kettle for tea, a baggage table, a cupboard. A night table, plenty of power outlets and USB ports. Plenty of light also.

The WiFi is good.

The bathroom

The bathroom features a bath tub! I didn’t expect that. Small, but still. The shower is a shower head as you would have at home and is a bit outdated, as is the shower curtain. One sink.

Toiletries are labeled Park Hotel. Accessories such as tooth brush / dental kit were restocked every day. Nice!

The bathroom is well lit and Oriol loved the mirror.

Breakfast

The breakfast buffet is elaborate. Western options such as bread and pastries, cheese, oatmeal and pancakes. Chinese items such as noodles, dim sum, rice, wonton and vegetables.

There is an egg and noodle station.

There are also items from Japan, a salad bar, fruit and tea, coffee and juices.

A decent offering, but the three days we had breakfast offered little variation.

The gym

The website says there is a gym, but is temporarily closed. The concierge just said there isn’t a gym. I miss that in a four-star hotel.

Pecularities

Park Hotel has two entrances. Practical if you want to enter or exit discretely. I have had hotels – I remember hotels in Sankt Moritz or Valladolid – where our comings and goings were being inspected.

We got two coupons for free drinks at the bar, but the bar is closed. Luckily the breakfast area doubles as café, lunch, drinks and dinner area. The toilets adjacent to the café aren’t open 24/7. Which is a bit annoying when you need a second toilet.

The campiest nutcracker ever.

So?

We were happy with Park Hotel Hong Kong. Good location, friendly service. Good room. Nothing special, but nothing to complain about.
