5 ideas for an experienced London visitor

For many of us London is not far away. Actually, it’s just a Eurostar journey away. So yes, I have been countless times to the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Am I still discovering new things? Yes! Here are five ideas for activities in London for experienced visitors.

Book a really nice hotel

Steve and I stayed at the InterContinental London – The O2. Not cheap, but we made the best of the facilities. Indulge. Don’t go for the cheap bed, but for a nice hotel. Combine a city trip with wellness, indulgence and great food.

Afternoon tea at The Savoy

Speaking about great food. The afternoon tea at the Thames Foyer in The Savoy is topnotch. You haven’t had real coronation chicken if you haven’t had the Savoy recipe.

Don’t forget to book in advance.

Churchill War Rooms

Run by the Imperial War Museum, the Churchill War Rooms at the Clive Steps on King Charles Street in Westminster offer an insight in the World War II decision making process.

Visiting the War Rooms was a perfect follow-up on watching ‘Dunkirk‘ and ‘Darkest Hour‘.

Also book in advance.

The Mousetrap

Everyone expects you to go see a musical, but why don’t you consider theatre? And if Shakespeare is too complicated for your non native level of English, consider Agatha Christie‘s ‘The Mousetrap‘ at St. Martin’s Theatre.

It has been on continuously since 1952 and is thus the longest running show. That’s the year George VI died and Elizabeth II became queen.

Oh yes, patrons are sworn to secrecy about who did it.

Palace of Westminster

You’re not allowed to take pictures inside except in a few roms, but the Palace of Westminster, which houses the House of Commons and the House of Lords is a tour of one thousand year of English and British parliamentary history.

Tours are also to be booked.
