REVIEW |Swiss Business Class Singapore to Zurich

Early 2020 AD. Timothy and I embark on a 21st century Odyssey. On the Majestic Princess from Sydney to New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji. Back to Sydney, then to Melbourne and flying back home.

We did this before the Big Coronavirus Disruption of Life As We Knew It.

After our brief stop in the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge we made our way to the other end of Terminal 2 where our Swiss Boeing 777-300ER to Zurich was parked. In Singapore you have to go to your gate on time as the security check is performed at each gate individually. After passing security we had to wait a bit in a holding room before being allowed on the plane.

The seats on the Swiss Boeing 777-300ER where the same ones as on our flight from Zurich to Bangkok, so you can read about them in more detail in our flight report. Unlike last time I wasn’t asked whether I wanted my coat to be hung in the cupboard but instead I just put in the overhead bin.

Surprisingly this time we did still get a Victorinox amenity kit, containing the basics like socks, earplugs, a toothbrush, toothpaste and lip balsam. They came in two colours, black and grey. It makes me wonder why the flight to Bangkok did not offer amenity kits anymore while this one did, it is not very consistent.

We were offered a pre departure beverage and hot towel and also received our menu and breakfast card we had to fill in.

After pushback we taxied for a bit until we came to a standstill, one of the brakes indicated a fault; we returned back to the gate and after a check-up by the technicians they isolated 1 out of the 12 brakes and we were allowed to fly. We topped up some fuel and we lifted off with about 2 hours delay. During the ground time the crew already came around taking meal orders and offering chocolates.

After take-off the crew did their best to start the meal service as soon as possible, as it was already approaching 2 am Singapore time by now. They started first with an aperitif, this time I selected a Swiss Gin with tonic accompanied by warm nuts.

The food was once again very delicious and my beef was tender and pink inside, Timothy’s salmon was less memorable.

Thanks to our flight time of 12 hours we were able to sleep quite well, which helped the time pass by. During the flight there was once again a snack basket offered in the galley with some sweets and fruits.

Before landing we were served the breakfast as filled in on the card. I selected the English breakfast which was actually quite delicious as far as airplane breakfasts go, only Thai’s breakfast to Sydney was better.

Once again Swiss offered a very solid flight and I sure will look at flying them again in the future. I’m still pleasantly surprised by the quality they offer which goes beyond what I expected of them.
