Antwerp Museums present autumn and winter 2023-2024 season

The City of Antwerp Museums department presents an autumn and winter of 2023-2024 full activities and (new exhibitions).

As the autumn break (herfstvakantie) starts for schools in Belgium, the department of museums of the City of Antwerp is ready for a few months of activities and exhibition to keep people doing excursions. 

‘SingSong’, a musical performance

Saturday 28 October. Red Star Line Museum.

Tom Clement spoke to and drew people who came to Belgium from all over the world. Their favorite song, portrait and story are the basis for a musical performance. Still a few places left. More information.

Exhibition ‘Rare & Indispensable’

From 31 October 2023 to 25 February 2024. Museum At the Stream (Museum Aan de Stroom aka MAS).

Michelangelo, René Magritte, Francis Bacon, James Ensor, Henry Moore and Peter Paul Rubens… These are some of the world-famous names that you can see at the MAS from Halloween

The exhibition ‘Rare & Indispensable‘ (‘Zeldzaam & Onmisbaar‘) presents a selection of works from the Flemish Masterpieces List. You can admire some pieces for the first time during this exhibition. More information.

The Pleasure Garden, artist tour by Gosie Vervloessem

Saturday 4 and 11 November. Middelheim Museum.

What stories hide behind the trees, plants and sculptures of the Middelheim Museum? Artist Gosie Vervloessem answers this question in ‘The Pleasure Garden‘, a digital artwork with augmented reality. Concert: International guitarists in Museum Vleeshuis

Wednesday 8 November. Museum Vleeshuis.

This year, the Antwerp Guitar Festival once again puts the spotlight on the very best guitarists. Museum Vleeshuis hosts a prelude concert and brings international guitarists to the stage. Come listen to the duo Orsan-Kreusch. More information.

Exhibition: Conversations

From 10 November. Museum Mayer van den Bergh.

Fifteen contemporary artists enter into dialogue with the centuries-old paintings, the modest sculpture and the lavish altarpieces from the collection of Fritz Mayer van den Bergh. Among them Kati Heck, Rinus Van de Velde, Ben Sledsens, Jonathan Meese and Inès van den Kieboom. The result is an intriguing blend of old and new that makes you look with renewed eyes. Exhibition: ‘From scribbles to cardboard’

17 November 2023 to 18 February 2024. Museum Plantin-Moretus.

Museum Plantin-Moretus shows in ‘From scribbles to cardboard‘ (‘Van crabbelinge tot carton‘) the 100 most beautiful Flemish drawings from the 16th and 17th centuries. These rare works from the Flemish Masterpieces List provide a stunning overview of who, why and how people drew at the time. It is a unique opportunity to see works by Pieter Bruegel, Peter Paul Rubens, Sir Anthony Van Dyck or Jacob Jordaens. More information.

Workshop for children : Create your own masterpiece

Sunday 19 November. Maiden’s House (Maagdenhuis).

Children aged 7 to 12 create their own masterpiece on the Children’s Arts Day. In the old girls’ orphanage you can look at the painted 16th-century porridge bowls. During a workshop you will discover everything about dot painting. A technique that comes from the aborigines in Australia. More information.

‘Gems & Glamour, An Interactive Jewelry Party’

Saturday 25 November. DIVA Museum.

Only one rule applies during this special party: you will only be given access if you are wearing a piece of jewelry yourself and are willing to exchange it for another piece of jewelry. Here everything revolves around interaction and exchange. More information.

Escape room: escape from the library of the Rubens House
