Belgium has taken new coronavirus countermeasures. The hardest hit Province of Antwerp took even stricter countermeasures with a curfew. The City of Antwerp – actually the Arrondissement of Antwerp* – even more so, cancelling all events. Obviously it affects the Antwerp Queer Arts Festival (AQAF) and Antwerp Pride.
“Due to the new covid restrictions in the Province of Antwerp, all events at De Studio have to be cancelled”, AQAF has already responded. “We will sit with our friends at De Studio and all involved artists to see what possibilities we have to reschedule to a date later this year. We will get in touch with people who already bought tickets very soon.
“The Queer Arts City Tour will be in place like planned. Starting from August 2 at 2 PM you can visit the expo at Gallery Verbeeck – Van Dyck and explore queer art work at 19 locations all over town. For exact locations and artists, check our website or pick up a leaflet.
Antwerp Pride
Antwerp Pride has to evaluate what can be salvaged. “The coronavirus isn’t gone yet, that’s a fact. The measures that were taken for Antwerp last night will have an impact on Antwerp Pride. We are going over our options and will give you an update as soon as possible.”
Rainbow flags
The commerce association of the Meir has put up the rainbow flags in the shopping area of Antwerp.
* An arrondissement is lesser known subdivision of a province.
