REVIEW | Hotel Zyan Rooms in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico

June 2022. Although I have been in Mexico before, the last time was in 1994-1995. Twenty-seven years later, Oriol and I are doing a classic tour of the United Mexican States, featuring Mexico City (CDMX); Palenque in Chiapas; Villahermosa in Tabasco; Uxmal, Mérida, Chichen Itza, Ek’ Balam, Valladolid,  and a few cenotes (waterholes) in Yucatán and Tulum in Quintana Roo. We returned via Cancún to CDMX and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

There weren’t many nice options for a stay in Villahermosa. Zyan Rooms – Recamaras y studios x semena did its marketing well on Booking and the price was very low. So we booked.

It looked a bit dodgy and for us unusual, but its rating was good.

Located in an anonymous street in a disceet house, Zyan is basically that. A house. Forteen rooms.

Reception was nothing special.

The room

The room was quite large. A vestibule with a kitchenette, as Zyan also caters to long stays. The kitchenette is sparsely equipped, but for our stay that didn’t matter. It did come in handy as there is no breakfast provided.

There’s a couch. The bedroom features bed and television. The bathroom is small. The sink is very close to the toilet and the shower is rudimentary. The soap provided is nameless. It’s blue and purple but which is shower gel and which shampoo? Who knows.

We also got to two towels. No footmat, no small towel for the sink or for the kitchen.

Humidity

Villahermosa in Tabasco is warm and humid and buildings suffer from that. Zyan reminds me of other accommodations I experienced in warm and humid in places. You see the wear and tear.

If you ever saw films taking place in such areas, you may know what I mean.

It’s not what we’re used to, but for the price we payed, it’s a good place to stay.

My review sounds harsh, but really, it’s okay. Certainly for that price.
