According to railway observers and fans on Het Grote Belgische Trein Forum (The Big Belgian Train Forum), the SNCF-operated TGV 9870 from Brussels in Belgium to Strasbourg in Alsace, France, will be extended to Basel in Switzerland. This would happen from the mid-December timetable update.
The major timetable update in Europe is scheduled for Sunday 13 December 2026.
“From December, TGV 9870 Brussels-Strasbourg on R567 would be extended to Basel SNCF (stop only in Mulhouse, not Colmar), arriving in Basel around 13:15. The return journey on R567 would then start around 14:15 as TGV 9888-9889 R567, departing Strasbourg around 15:30, arriving in Brussels around 19:00. On N567, TGV 9894-9895 (departing from Strasbourg) would continue to run at its current (late) time”, user FLV-FGSP says.
There is some debate on the departure times on the forum. R567 means it runs on Friday (day 5 of the week), Saturday (day 6), and Sunday (day 7). N567 means it does not run on these days.
The TGV would arrive to and depart from Basel SNCF / Bâle SNCF, which lies adjacent to Basel SBB.
2016 – 2026
Until March / April 2016, there was a ‘slow’, ‘classic’ train link between Belgium and Switzerland, via Luxembourg. In February Belgian Federal Mobility Minister Jean-Luc Crucke (Les Engagés) expressed the wish to revive a direct train service, by day, between the two countries.
