ANTWERP PRIDE 2023 | Antwerp Pride activities and events especially for women

It’s summer so it’s time for Antwerp Pride and Antwerp Queer Arts Festival (AQAF). From 4 to 27 August 2023, AQAF hosts queer artists being queer, in the alternative, quirky, more rebellious sense of the word. Antwerp Pride, from 9 to 13 August, is more mainstream, openly catering to everyone and thus attracting a general, more mainstream LGBTQIA+ and allied public. This year’s pride theme is ‘Braveolution‘.

Often pride organisations are get blamed for being to masculine. Decision makers are often male, cisgender and white. And yes, Antwerp Pride also counts many cis white men its volunteer ranks.

Yet, efforts are made to organise activities and events for women, besides Pride – Women – In Town. 

Forbidden Love

‘L’amour interdit‘ is a musical in Dutch. 

“As a warm-up for the pride weekend in Antwerp, Move vzw brings their jukebox musical ‘L’amour interdit’. The story starts in a dusty attic full of stuff and memories. While cleaning up the attic, Eline discovers the diary of her recently deceased mother. Together with her daughter she goes on a journey of discovery. They delve into the past and learn more than their imagination could ever predict. The theater comes alive with the vibrant music of the 60s and 70s.”

Cutfest 2.0

Bar Cut, geared towards queer women, holds Cutfest 2.0 12 August. 

“HOOOOWDY Y’ALL. Last year we had the first edition of CUTFEST, which was a overwhelming succes. This year we’re back to hit you with the right tunes, the good vibes, love and unity to bring us all together. BE BRAVE THEY SAY? Come out of that comfortzone and be who you want to be, as it should always be!

We will have dj’s, a market with cool stuff from small local business owners, a flash tattoo shop, food stands. AND. SO. ON. If i were you, i’d know where i would be that day 😉 Doors open at 12, FREE ENTRY FOR ALL. There is no room for any type of discrimination, have respect or get the HEEEELL out of here.”
