Brussels Airlines notes an increasing demand for destinations with lower temperatures in summer months. Belgium‘s national airline transports 12% more passengers to Scandinavia, compared to 2024.
In cooperation with travel agency Nordic, Brussels Airlines added Evenes in Norway to its network, but also destinations like Edinburgh in Scotland and perhaps surprisingly Bilbao in Spain are becoming increasingly popular.
Heat waves
With heat waves all over Europe, people are increasingly searching for destinations with enjoyable temperatures. Brussels Airlines has worked on diversifying it’s destination portfolio to cope with this demand:
- Funchal on Madeira is new in the Brussels Airlines network since summer 2025. Although it’s southern location, the Atlantic climate makes temperatures generally moderate throughout the year: warmer in winter, and cooler in summer.
- Evenes is offered in cooperation with travel agency Nordic. Located in Ofoten it also joined the network in 2025. Even in the middle of summer, temperatures in this region tend to stay cool.
Destinations that are not new, but offer cool temperatures in a hot summer:
- Stockholm and Gothenburg in Sweden.
- Copenhagen in Denmark.
- Oslo in Norway.
- Vilnius in Lithuania.
- Edinburg in Scotland.
- Bilbao in Biscay in the Basque Country.
“I’ve discovered Scotland myself during my most recent holidays, and I can tell: Scotland treated me to four seasons in one day – but surprisingly little rain! Perfect hiking weather, breathtaking landscapes, and even a ray of sunshine while paddleboarding on Loch Ness (and no monsters in sight). For those who love fresh air, active days, and a touch of mystery: this is the ultimate coolcation”, Greet Vandebos, Head of Leisure Sales at Brussels Airlines, says.
“Coolcations are more than just a trend – they’re a solution for people who’re looking for calm, nature and a cool breeze. Together with Brussels Airlines, we make a dream holiday more accessible than ever”, Maarten Raes, CEO & Founder of Nordic, says.
