ANTWERP PRIDE 2023 | Introductory Queer Tour of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Antwerp (KMSKA)

It’s summer so it’s time for Antwerp Pride and Antwerp Queer Arts Festival (AQAF). From 4 to 27 August 2023, AQAF hosts queer artists being queer, in the alternative, quirky, more rebellious sense of the word. Antwerp Pride, from 9 to 13 August, is more mainstream, openly catering to everyone and thus attracting a general, more mainstream LGBTQIA+ and allied public. This year’s pride theme is ‘Braveolution‘.

The Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Antwerp (KMSKA) is hosting introductory tours on the occasion of Antwerp Pride.

The theme of Antwerp Pride 2023 is ‘Braveolution’: a call from the LGBTQIA+ community to work towards a more inclusive society. The KMSKA also wants to be a brave space.

At the beginning of August, everyone is welcome to join a Queer Tour. Together with a guide and rose-colored glasses you traverse the museum collection. How do we look at old art with a queer eye? Which artists played with gender norms? Which paintings show us what was considered demure or immoral? How does the queer community appropriate certain representations from the past?

“During this tour, be inspired to look at art in a different way and be completely yourself! Because why be normal when you can be fabulous?”, the KMSKA says.
