There will not be a European Sleeper night train service by the summer months of 2022. The company is tempering expectations.

“Preparations are in full swing, but it appears it is not possible to start the new Brussels – Amsterdam – Berlin – Prague night train in the summer of 2022. To avoid disappointment, we are not giving a new start date for the time being. We are doing everything we can to start our night train as soon as possible”, European Sleeper is stating its newsletter and on its new website.

Rolling stock

Instead, the company is looking for investors to acquire proper rolling stock. “Last year, the sale of our shares was a great success. Everything was sold out in 15 minutes. With that investment, we have prepared our first night train, which is now almost ready to run. 

But of course we want more. And that is why we are going to invest in our own night trains. This means: more comfort, more privacy and a modern look and feel.”

European Sleeper 

The Dutch European Sleeper started as a cooperative company in 2021, wanting to link Belgium and the Netherlands with Germany and Czechia. Many announcements followed, including a merger with the Belgian Moonlight Express. 

Future projects include Scandinavia and Barcelona.

But the project seems to lose some traction, if you’ll pardon the pun. It teamed up with Czech discount train operator RegioJet, but it seems harder than anticipated to keep the project right on track.
